The 2016 Intramural Basketball championship was one to remember. The Pelo Rejects took on the teachers team, Staff Infection. These teams had worked for one goal all year; to play on March 10th, 2016, during Options.

“The Pelo Rejects” are a team that is unlike any other that Chanhassen Intramural Basketball has ever seen. The team consists of players that have been cut by Varsity Coach, Mr. Pelowski.

“Being put aside gave us this opportunity,” said captain of The Pelo Rejects, Ben Kloke (12). “We wanted to stand up and prove to the world, and we did, that we don’t reject the game.”

Going into a game with stakes as high as this can create new emotions; even though they had previously defeated them.

“Yes, we have beaten them. Yes, we’re probably gonna do it again. But will we?” Kloke said. “We’re getting cocky. We’re getting confident, but I still wanted everyone’s head on on a swivel.”

Seniors Ben Kloke, Matt Walz, Logan Lea, Sam Nordling, Jack Braaten, Drew Elder, and junior Brian Ash, outscored Mr. Turner, Mr. Zygarlicke, Mr. Theobald, Mr. Fischer, Mr. Klingelhutz, Mr. Rydland, Mr. Redman, and Mr. Omang, 47-44 in what Kloke called “a grueling battle.”

“The feeling I received after the game was indescribable,” Kloke said. “I have been a part of many youth league championship teams, I have seen things I didn’t believe to be possible, but winning this game was single-handedly, the greatest moment of my entire existence, and I know that the entire team feels the same way.”

Brian Ash (11) will be the only returning member to the team due to his youth. With all of The Pelo Rejects  scattering across the country next year it is up to Ash to recruit new members and keep what Kloke started alive.

“The game may reject us, but we will never reject the game.” -The Pelo Rejects.
